Snowstorm keeps troopers busy

1-31 troopers

The recent snowstorm kept troopers in the Detroit Lakes district busy, but did not overwhelm them.

From noon on Friday until 6 a.m. Tuesday troopers responded to 19 crashes. While six of these crashes did involve some injuries, the injuries were not serious or fatal.

In addition to those crashes, troopers in the Detroit Lakes district responded to 100 vehicles that had gone off the road.

There were several troopers called out for extra work and a few were called in to start their shifts earlier than planned.

As usual, the I-94 and Highway 10 corridors had most calls for service.

The media did a good job of getting the word out on the approaching storm so that drivers could make appropriate plans for safer travel, according to a State Patrol news release.

During that same time period statewide, troopers responded to 744 vehicles that had gone off the road.

Three State Patrol squad cars received some damage, including one in the Moorhead area.

"We are thankful that only minor damage occurred," said Trooper Andy Schmidt.
