License plate stolen from squad car

MOORHEAD - The Clay County Sheriff's Office is looking for a stolen license plate that should be easy for the public to remember.

"It's the one that says 'sheriff' on it," Chief Deputy Matt Siiro said.

The plate was lifted from a squad car parked for repairs in front of Radio Connections at 1909 27th St. S. in Moorhead's industrial park, Siiro said.

A deputy noticed the Minnesota plate was missing when he picked up the car at around 5 p.m. Friday, Siiro said, adding the plate was probably stolen in the previous day or two.

The sheriff's office has no leads on the plate, and the theft wasn't caught on surveillance video, he said.

The thief likely took the plate for his or her own personal use, Siiro said, comparing it to someone stealing a stop sign to hang in their dorm room.

"We're not too happy about it, obviously," he said.
