White Earth to host farmers market

Across the state there are some interesting things happening around obesity and tobacco prevention.

Many communities are developing initiatives to address these two major health risks through the SHIP (Statewide Health Improvement Plan) Programs. Kim Turner is coordinating the White Earth SHIP program.

The SHIP team is made up of several people from various programs and communities who help provide guidance and direction within the State guidelines. One of the many projects of the SHIP Program is the development of local farmers' markets.

Farmers' markets serve many purposes. The goal of White Earth's Farmers' Market is to develop a sense of community by bringing growers and consumers together. It is a desire to make locally grown, healthy foods more readily available to area communities while providing a market to local gardeners who wish to sell their produce.

The farmers' markets will be held in White Earth next to M&W and in Mahnomen in the front parking lot of the Shooting Star Casino under the big sign. The dates are as follows:

White Earth: Aug. 13 grand opening from 10a.m.-2 p.m.

Sept. 10 from 10a.m.-2 p.m.

Oct. 8 from 10a.m.-2 p.m.

Aug. 5 grand opening from 2-6 p.m.

Sept. 2 from 2-6 p.m.

Oct. 7 from 2-6 p.m.

The White Earth Community Farmers' Market is a non-profit community based market. They appreciate the support of local vendors and community members to help organize and guide the market.

There is a one-time per season fee of $25 per vendor stall of 12x12. There are some rules and guidelines as well as a waiver that must be signed prior to selling at the White Earth Community Farmers' Market.
