LRAC offering artist grants
Now that the leaves have fallen and the days are getting shorter; it's time to think about indoor projects. Are you an aspiring artist looking to start a new project? Could you use a little help financing your creative ideas?
The Lake Region Arts Council/McKnight Foundation offers an Artist Small Grant valued up to $500 to fund developing artists in the nine-county region; Becker, Clay, Douglas, Grant, Otter Tail, Pope, Stevens, Traverse, and Wilkin counties. Each year one grant is awarded per county to help facilitate new artistic work. To date for fiscal year 2011, only the Otter Tail and Pope County grants have been awarded so there are seven more $500 Artist Small Grants still available to individual artists residing in Becker, Clay, Douglas, Grant, Stevens, Traverse, and Wilkin counties.
The Artist Small Grant may be spent on equipment and supplies to create art, attend trainings and workshops (college tuition or degree work are not permitted), travel & expenses to study and work, and/or publicity and marketing to promote projects. Funds are available for all artistic pursuits; dance, fiber art jewelry, mixed media music, painting, photography, sculpture, theatre, woodworking, writing etc. The Artist Small Grant is for new art projects and cannot fund work in progress.
The LRAC Artist Small Grant application is available on line at LRACgrants.org. Be sure to read the grant guidelines for the eligibility criteria for applicants and artistic projects.
