DL QWERTY robotics team takes state

It's only their second year of existence, but the Detroit Lakes High School QWERTY Robotics team number 3278 took the state competition Saturday.

Team Mentor Debbie Janzen says their first place win at the FIRST competition (FIRST standing for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology") has the whole team just floored.

"Everytime there was an elimination and we went through, we would just look at each other amazed!"

Now, the team is busy trying to raise money for the national competition in St. Louis, Missouri, which will also be host to several global competitors as well.

"We have to have $5,000 by Tuesday to enter the competition, and then there is also the cost of getting everybody there with lodging and all that..." Janzen said.

If a person or business is interested in sponsoring the team, you can contact Debbie Janzen at 701-388-9697.

There will be a full story on the team in Wednesday's Tribune.
