Dent man drowns when vehicle goes into slough
UNDERWOOD, Minn. - A Dent man drowned when his pickup went off a township road and became submerged in a slough early Saturday, the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office said.
Paul Whitman, 35, and his dog both drowned in the slough, located along 310th Avenue near 240th Street about three miles northeast of Underwood, the sheriff's office stated in a news release.
Whitman was not wearing his seat belt in the 1998 GMC Sonoma pickup, the release stated. He was taken by Ringdahl Ambulance to Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls but died.
Alcohol was believed to be a factor in the fatal crash reported at 12:41 a.m., the release stated.
