Man rescued from Detroit Lake after falling in while kayaking

A Detroit Lakes man was saved Monday afternoon from the cold waters of Detroit Lakes after falling into the lake while kayaking. According to KRCQ Radio, the man wasn't immediately identified. He had climbed on top of his kayak until rescued and was in the water for around 40 minutes. According to the Detroit Lakes Police Department and DNR conservation officer Joe Stattelman, the wind was gusting up to 20 mph at the time the man was kayaking. Water temperature was around 45 degrees. The man was rescued with assistance from J & K Marine in Detroit Lakes. Statteleman said the marina workers were setting up lake docks and took rescue personnel on their pontoon to get the stranded man. An EMS team examined the victim as a precaution in case of hypothermia.
