S.M.A.R.T. pre-k educators' workshop in town

Seventy-five educators from Detroit Lakes and surrounding areas plan to participate in the Minnesota Learning Resource Center's brand new S.M.A.R.T. Pre-K Workshop at Minnesota State Community and Technical College August 23-25.

This workshop will teach educators a multi-sensory approach that develops and enhances the readiness skills 3 to 5-year-old children need for learning prior to entering kindergarten.

As former educators and therapists at public schools throughout the country, the three Minnesota Learning Resource Center (MLRC) presenters, or "mentors," possess a wealth of experience and knowledge. They aim to provide many hands-on activities during the three-day workshop, making it a highly engaging and applicable experience for educators preparing to start a new school year.

The MLRC (Minnesota Learning Resource Center) is the nationally recognized teacher-training institute of A Chance To Grow, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit agency devoted to helping all children reach their highest potential, including those already at grade level to those with learning challenges, developmental delays, and brain injuries.

Established through state legislative funding in 1999, the MLRC has expanded its educational services to help low-income students across Minnesota and the country. It works with over 4,000 teachers in 250 schools across 12 states, serving more than 60,000 students.
