Six people taken to hospital after head-on collision near Mahnomen

Six people were transported to Mahnomen Health Center Thursday afternoon following a head-on car accident on an icy Minnesota Highway 59 south of Mahnomen.

The State Patrol said a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by a Detroit Lakes man was heading south near mile marker 296 at 3:18 p.m. when it struck a 2005 Honda Accord carrying a family of four from Fergus Falls, Minn.

The driver of the Grand Prix, Brian Westlie, 53, and his passenger, Timothy Dixon, 46, were transported to the Mahnomen Health Center by ambulance.

Thomas Heruth, 28, the driver of the Honda, and his wife Mandi Heruth, 36, didn't suffer significant injuries.

Their two children, Tyler, 3 and Hayden, 1, suffered non life-threatening injuries and the entire family was taken to the Mahnomen Health Center by ambulance.
