There are plenty of places to shop in the Detroit Lakes area, including a few new boutiques that opened earlier this summer.

Unique Boutique

A little over a month ago, Tracy and Chris Roach opened Unique Boutique at 515 Washington Ave., Detroit Lakes.

"The community has been very supportive and embraced us," Tracy Roach said.

The couple moved to Detroit Lakes from Hastings this winter to be closer to family. They decided they wanted to offer the community some variety in the form of a boutique.

Unique Boutique mainly sells a colorful variety of clothing and accessories. They also have some home décor items.

They are open on Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Find them on Facebook for more information.

Kitty Kelli's Clothing

Kitty Kelli's Clothing opened in March at 915A Washington Ave., Detroit Lakes.

Owner Kelli Atchison has had a boutique at the Shady Hollow Flea Market for eight years, but wanted somewhere she could sell her clothing and accessories year round.

Since Kitty Kelli's opening, business has been good, Atchison said.

The boutique sells overstock and liquidated items from QVC -- clothes range in sizes from XS to 3X.

"It's not something everyone else has," Atchison said.

Kitty Kelli's Clothing is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Patty's Beach House

Located at 1334 Washington Ave., Detroit Lakes, right off of the lake and across from City Park, Patty's Beach House was made for a shopping break from the lake.

"I thought we needed a little something by the beach," said owner Patty Mollberg, who opened the shop on Memorial Day.

Stating that she sells nostalgia, Mollberg listed a few different types of merchandise that fill her Beach House: antique furniture, knickknacks, jewelry, art from local artists and beach items, like sunscreen.

The featured local art includes Gene Lof's woodwork, Brian Geihl's screen printing and Danika Leitheiser's artwork. During busy beach-going times, such as the Fourth of July, Mollberg plans to have artists working outside the shop for people to see.

There's also a patio in the back of the shop where more art and merchandise will be located.

Mollberg said she's received great feedback on the store.

"Everyone's delighted that there's something to check out by the lake," she said.

She thinks it's the convenience by the beach and the large variety of merchandise that draws people in.

Mollberg does have some people selling items in her store by consignment. Those interested in selling should contact her.

"If I have the room, definitely," she said.

Patty's Beach House is open Thursday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will stay open through September.

Amazing Mae's Tea Parlor and the Whatever

When Robbie Schoenberger was little, she remembers decorating up a storm.

"I was always designing and creating," she said.

On June 8, she opened Amazing Mae's Tea Parlor and the Whatever Boutique at 910 Washington Ave., Detroit Lakes.

One would be hard pressed to find anything quite as charming, as the completely remodeled space (which was formerly Lakes Brewed Awakenings), drips with eclectic knick knacks in the front and an exquisite dining area in the back.

The "Whatever Boutique" in the front is just as detail-oriented as the dining area, as it's sprinkled with a mixture of new, fun décor and old, and "repurposed" items.

"I wanted it to be something special -- something bright and inviting even during the winter," said Schoenberger, who painted the walls baby grass green and has a black and white checkered floor.

Tea parties can be booked at Amazing Mae's, including those for baby showers, bridal showers or any kind of special event.

Call 844-5588 or stop by during the hours of 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. t 3:00 p.m.

VAVA Boutique

VAVA Boutique in Cormorant Village sells clothing, jewelry, accessories and décor.

It's open May through September, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
