• Looney Daze: 7 p.m., Event Center, Vergas. The weekend's festivities begin with the crowning of new Looney Daze royalty at the annual Miss Vergas and Princess Altona Pageant.


• Summer Thursday Live at the Lodge: 5 to 8 p.m., Lodge on the Lake, 1200 East Shore Dr., Detroit Lakes. Featuring Ed Huttlin, piano and Russ Peterson, saxophone. Open to the public and hotel guests; no cover charge. Info: 218-847-8439.

• Monroe Crossing: 7:30 p.m., Historic Holmes Theatre, 826 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes. Named in honor of Bill Monroe, the "Father of Bluegrass Music," this group dazzles audiences with an electrifying blend of classic bluegrass, gospel, and heartfelt originals. • Kids Day at the Museum: 1 and 2 p.m., Becker County Museum, 714 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes. Today's theme is "I Like That! Collecting History at Home." Free admission; intended for kids ages 5-8. • DNR Fish Hatchery 100th Anniversary: 1 to 3 p.m., Lake Sallie Fish Hatchery, 14538 County Highway 19, Detroit Lakes. Free admission; learn more about the history of the fourth oldest fish hatchery in Minnesota and see its operation; tours, refreshments, a short program at 1:30 p.m. and a fishing event to follow. • Jasper's Theatre: 3 to 5:15 p.m., Jasper's Theatre, Highway 34 East, Park Rapids. Music, magic and comedy family show; call for ticket prices. Info: 218-237-4333.


• Frazee Corn Feed: 5 to 7 p.m., outdoor lot by the Backyard Station, Frazee. All the fresh, delicious sweet corn you can eat, with live entertainment by musician/guitarist Todd Sisson. Info: Roger Boe, 218-334-4300.

Friday, Aug. 10


• Looney Daze: 8 a.m., downtown Vergas. Today's events include area wide rummage sales, a Methodist Church Flea Market and business sales throughout the day, followed by Happy Hour with Todd Sisson at 5 p.m. in the beer garden (by Hanson's Plumbing), the Little Miss and Mr. Vergas Pageant at the Event Center at 6:30 p.m., and karaoke on the Main Stage at 7 p.m. (bring your own lawn chairs for seating).

• Pine Point Powwow: 5 p.m., Powwow Grounds. Annual celebration kicks off with a 5 p.m. demolition derby.


• Front Fenders: 8 p.m., Hotel Shoreham, 24110 County Highway 22, Detroit Lakes. Rock music. Info: 218-847-9913.

Saturday, Aug. 11


• Looney Daze: 8 a.m., downtown Vergas. Today's events include a Methodist Church Flea Market and Kids' Fishing Tournament both starting at 8 a.m., 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m., Street Fair starting at 9:30, Kittenball Tournament and Fire Department Open House both starting at 10 a.m., Minnesota Zoomobile at noon, Road Rally at 1 p.m., Loon Claling Contest at 2 p.m., and a full day of live entertainment including the Beat Goes On at 1 p.m., Blue Barry & Jazzy Frank at 3 pm., David Lee at 6 p.m. and the Fat Cats at 8 p.m., which is also when the street dance starts.

• Pine Point Powwow: 8:30 a.m., Powwow Grounds. The Joe Bush Memorial 5K Walk/Run starts at 8:30 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. flag raising ceremony at 10 a.m., community feast at 5 p.m. and Grand Entry at both 1 and 7 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 12


• Looney Daze: 8 a.m., downtown Vergas. Today's events include a Classic Car & Motorcycle Show at 9 a.m., Outdoor Church Service at 10 a.m., Classic Car & Motorcycle Parade at 1 p.m. and Looney Daze Parade at 2 p.m. The grand parade will be followed by the Strong Man/Sheef Toss Contest and Water Fights. The day's events conclude with an 8 p.m. raffle drawing at Billy's Corner Bar.

• Pine Point Powwow: 1 p.m., Powwow Grounds. The final Grand Entry of this year's celebration begins.


• "Minnesota on the Map" Opening Reception: 1 to 3 p.m., Becker County Museum, 714 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes.
