Crime and Accidents

The following items were taken from reports at the Detroit Lakes Police Department and Becker County Sheriff's Office.

Friday, Aug. 10

• At 7 a.m. a Waubun man reported the theft of a 2006 GMC diesel pickup truck, which was later found by tribal police and towed.

• At 1:14 p.m. a woman reported the theft of a tent, camera, clothing and other items from Eagle campground at WE Fest.

• At 2:42 p.m. a Maple Grove Township woman reported a residential break-in.

Saturday, Aug. 11

• At 1:02 a.m. several calls were received from Cherry Lake Road in White Earth Township. An adult and a 13-year-old girl were both assaulted, and one person was cited by police.

• At 2:42 a.m. a DNR officer reported he was pursuing a vehicle in Runeberg Township. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot in the vicinity of County Road 47 south of County Road 40.

• At 11:52 a.m. a resident on the 800 block of South Shore Drive reported the theft of a large golden retriever statue, taken overnight from the front porch.

• At 1:19 p.m. a possible sexual assault was reported in Green Valley Township and one person was taken to the juvenile detention center in Moorhead.

• At 2:11 p.m. a Detroit Lakes man reported that a storage locker had been forcibly entered on Highway 10 and items stolen, including toolboxes and three boxes of beer mugs.

• At 3:43 p.m. a woman on the 39000 block of Village Drive in Eagle View Township reported that a man had shot out the living room window and cut a screen.

• At 8:28 p.m. Essentia St. Mary's reported that a 16-year-old boy who had been practicing quick draw moves with a .22 caliber pistol had accidentally shot himself in the thigh, incurring a flesh wound.

The accident occurred about 45 minutes earlier, at a rural Waubun residence located north of White Earth village on County Road 21.

• At 8:28 p.m. a rollover accident with injuries was reported on Highway 10 near Acorn Lake. Frazee Rescue and St. Mary's EMS responded to the call.

• At 9:38 p.m. a fire was reported in Frazee. It turned out to be a controlled burn by the fire department on Chilton Road.

• At 11:02 p.m. the theft of two coolers and a "Thule" bag was reported, taken from the box of a Silverado pickup truck parked behind Zorbaz overnight.

Sunday, Aug. 12

• At 8:31 a.m. vandalism was reported involving several mailboxes on the 34000 block of Highway 87.

• At 9:32 a.m. vandalism involving a broken windshield in the congregant housing parking area was reported by a White Earth man.

• At 10:20 a.m. a Lake Park man reported an overnight break-in on the 16000 block of 192nd Street, involving the theft of a Remington 7400 shotgun and a PSE hunting bow.

• At 11:16 a.m. a car in the derby parade caught fire in Pine Point. Carsonville firefighters responded.

• At 1:51 p.m. a license plate was reported stolen from a vehicle parked at the Cotton Lake public access. Another license plate theft was reported a few hours later at the same location.

• At 6:14 p.m. an accident with injuries was reported when two motorcycles collided at McKinley Avenue and Frazee Street in Detroit Lakes.

The accident involved a blue 2008 Honda CBR driven by Daniel Michael Carlson, 18, of Wayzata and a 2005 Honda ST13 driven by Steven Michael Trana, 49, of Shawnee, Kan.

Trana was stopped on Frazee Street when he was hit from behind by Carlson, causing Trana to fall on his left side.

Carlson told police that he had not noticed that Trana had stopped for the stop sign and ran into him. The injuries were apparently minor, since neither man went to the hospital, according to the incident report.

Monday, Aug. 13

• At 3:12 a.m. a worker at BTD in Detroit Lakes was injured when a container fell on his leg. St. Mary's EMS responded to the scene.

• At 9:25 a.m. criminal damage to property was reported on Pike Lake Resort Road in North Round Lake Township.

• At 11:20 a.m. a Hawley man reported a possible case of neglected horses off County Road 7, Lake Park.

• At 4:27 p.m. a man on the 1400 block of Lori Avenue reported identity theft. He said he works for BNSF railway and a number of employees there have recently had fraudulent credit card accounts opened in their names. The man said an account was opened in his name on Aug. 7 and three online charges were made Sunday, for $299, $299 and $102. He contacted the credit card company, which turned it over to their fraud division.

• At 5:28 p.m. a man reported kids were breaking windows at his mother's residence on the 28000 block of 490th Avenue, Pine Point.

• At 6 p.m. the emergency room at Essentia St. Mary's reported an unruly person. Officers assisted ER staff and family with calming the patient.

• At 6:23 p.m. a woman on the 26000 block of Lidstrom Road in Detroit Township reported three tires had been flattened on her vehicle.

• At 8:20 p.m. an ambulance was called to the 21000 block of Highway 59 in Detroit Township for a woman suffering from serious burns. A deputy and St. Mary's EMS responded to the scene.

• At 8:22 p.m. the Detroit Lakes Community Center reported damage to a newspaper vending machine outside the main doors. The vending machine door was open. It was not known if money was missing.

• At 11:43 p.m. two local men were arrested for loitering under the Soo Line-Highway 10 bridge. A 49-year-old man and a 53-year-old man were arrested for trespassing and public nuisance and held in jail pending court hearings.

Tuesday, Aug. 14

• At 1:53 a.m. a disturbance on the 26000 block of Marten Drive, White Earth, led to one person with an arm injury and one citation issued by police.
