There is some bigger size to create some bigger holes for the Pelican Rapids' offense this season.

The Vikings will have more size on the offensive front, which will benefit second-year starter senior quarterback Devin Schell.

"The offensive line can move well and potentially, they can be very effective helping move the ball," said Pelican Rapids head coach Dave Haugen.

Schell returns with a bevy of experience, including stepping in late his sophomore season to help lead the Vikings to the state playoffs.

His improvement of throwing the ball adds an extra element to the Vikes' offense, in which he will have some solid targets to throw to.

"He's throwing the ball with a lot of confidence and I'm excited to see our offense perform," Haugen said.

On the offensive front, senior Ian Johnson returns at tackle and senior Marshall Ohe is back at center.

"Both understand the game well and overall, our offensive line has good size ranging from 220 to 260 pounds," Haugen said.

The backfield will feature senior fullback Tanner Grahn, while the wingback positions will be filled by seniors Carlos Gutierrez, Pat Coleman and junior Ryan Bruggeman.

"Carlos is elusive and Pat had some good reps from last year," Haugen said.

Senior Tucker Forsgren will be a main target of Schell's at 6-foot-6 with good hands.

Juniors Nathan Sillirud and Travis Haugen will lineup opposite of Forsgren.

Johnson, Ohe and junior Eddie Ramos will anchor down the defensive line, while Forsgren will be a force at outside linebacker, along with Sillirud and Haugen.

The secondary will be filled with Schell and senior Devon Hensch, while Coleman, Bruggeman and Gutierrez will see time at safety.

"It's an athletic group," Haugen said of his defensive unit. "I definitely feel we will be able to compete this season."

Last year's state entrant Warroad returns as a conference favorite, along with Hawley being in the mix. Warroad also will be the favorites to defend their section crown from a year ago.
