LPA School Board sets levy at 5%

The Lake Park-Audubon School Board certified a preliminary 2012, payable 2013 tax levy of $2,533,037 for the district at its regular meeting Monday night in Audubon.

The preliminary district levy represents a $128,070 (or 5.3 percent) increase over last year's certified levy of $2,404,968.

Though the final levy for the district won't be certified until December, the total amount cannot exceed the preliminary figure, which is why the school board voted to approve the maximum levy allowed under state law.

They do have the option of reducing the levy before the final amount is certified at the end of the year.

In other business Monday, the board voted to set the date for official dedication of the new high school in Lake Park on Sunday, Sept. 30.

The dedication and presentation of the new school to the public will be part of LP-A's All-School Reunion festivities that weekend.

The program is set to start at 1 p.m. in the high school theater, following a potluck dinner for all reunion participants in the school commons. There will also be a community church service at 10:30 a.m.

The All-School Reunion is being held in conjunction with Lake Park's annual Pumpkin Fest celebration, and activities are planned throughout the weekend, including tours of both the old and new high school facilities.
