Explosive offense to key Lady Hornets

Frazee girls basketball team: Row 1: Taylor Tappe, Paige Hanson, Katie Smith, Katie McCorquodale, Jeni Bergstrom, Heidi Seeger, Josi Tappe. Row 2: Kennady Barlund, Samantha Barker, Ashley Bachmann, Whitney Janu, Alexis Tappe, Amber Bauer, Grace Lacey.

Scoring should not be a problem for the Frazee girls' basketball team, after returning a host of players who can put the ball in the bucket.

But the one Lady Hornet who brings in one of the most complete games in the area will be senior guard/post Alexis Tappe, who averaged 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists per game last year -- and she will be doing all that potentially from every position.

"Alexis is stronger and better, she will be our floor general at point guard," said Frazee head coach Dave Conzemius. "Through the years, Alexis has also seen every defense thrown at her, so she will not be surprised at anything this year."

Tappe also will be a match-up problem for opponents, since she will be a 5-foot-11 point guard, who can rebound and dish the ball around to her teammates.

One of those Lady Hornets Tappe will be looking for is Frazee all-time three-pointer shooter, senior Ashley Bachmann.

Another trey threat will be senior guard Katie McCorquodale, who averaged 5.5 ppg last year.

"She will be more aggressive and will be looked upon to score more on a consistent basis," Conzemius said.

The Lady Hornets will have depth in the backcourt with sophomores Josi Tappe and Katie Smith.

On the frontline, Frazee will be undersized, but aggressive. Junior Taylor Tappe positions herself well and averaged six rebounds a game in 2011-12.

Bachmann also plays with a physical style, as well as Alexis Tappe hauling in boards.

Sophomore Kennady Barlund also will chip in on the boards, as well as stepping outside and draining a perimeter shot.

Others who will contribute include seniors Sam Barker, Grace Lacey and freshman Whitney Janu.

With the undersized Lady Hornets, running the floor will be more prevalent.

"Our goal is to get up and down more than we have in the past," Conzemius said. "We are looking to have a winning record and host a first-round playoff game. I think we are in good position to win 18-20 games this season."
