About 55 firefighters from five different area fire departments rescued dozens of cows that were trapped under a collapsed roof last Friday morning.

The roof collapsed on a huge dairy barn at the Aho Brothers farm, north of Wolf Lake.

While many cows were saved, at least 20 died; others were traumatized by the event.

Perham Fire Chief, Mark Schmidt, said firefighters from Wolf Lake, Perham, Detroit Lakes, Frazee and Carsonville were all on scene. Firefighters and neighbors shoveled snow and removed debris to help free the animals.
