Chocolate Chill set for Tuesday in DL

Anytime a public event is scheduled in this area during the winter months, there is a risk of bad weather causing a postponement or cancellation.

Such was the case on Monday, Feb. 11, when a severe snowstorm caused the cancellation or postponement of several Polar Fest activities —including the inaugural Chocolate Chill hosted by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce.

On Tuesday, April 23, the Chamber’s Promotion & Events Committee will try, try again to get the Chocolate Chill underway.

The event will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Washington Square Mall.

Local chocolate makers and vendors will have booths set up inside the mall to showcase their specialties, from handmade fudge to lava cakes and truffles.

“Each vendor is going to have a booth with something different to sample, or to take home,” said Chamber President Carrie Johnston. “They will have a little bit of everything.”

In short, it’s a chocolate lover’s dream. Simply purchase a Chocolate Chill Treat Box for $5, then wander the mall corridors filling your box or sampling a variety of chocolates and tasty treats.

“Your treat box is your ticket,” Johnston said.

There will also be live music from folk singer Shari Breznay, and attendees can register for a variety of door prizes to be given away throughout the evening.

“And of course, there will be shopping throughout the mall,” Johnston said.

In fact, many downtown retailers will be offering “sweet deals” — special sales and treats that will be available all day long, she added.

And bosses, please take note: This event is being held the day before Administrative Professionals Day.

“This is a good opportunity for people to shop for that as well,” Johnston said.

You will also be able to enjoy music by local folk singer Shari Breznay and be eligible for door prizes.

Tickets are available at several downtown locations, at the door on Tuesday, or can be picked up at the DL Chamber office at 700 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes.

Proceeds from this event are used for future Polar Fest events. For more information, please call the DL Chamber office at 218-847-9202.
