Genealogical society

The Heart O’Lakes Genealogical Society holds its regular meeting on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Becker County Museum. Anyone who is interested in researching their family history is invited to attend. There will be some time to research following the meeting. Daughters of American Revolution meeting

The local Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) chapter meets at 1 p.m. in the Becker County Museum. Alex Sahr will speak about his book, “Memoirs of a B-24 Bomber Veteran in WWII.”  The public is invited as well as women interested in becoming members of DAR.

Wildlife Excursion

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts a Wildlife Excursion at 10 a.m. Explore the refuge with a knowledgeable guide. Search for wildlife and learn about the cultural and natural history of Tamarac on this driving tour. Meet at the Chippewa Picnic Area on Cty Hwy 26 just east of the visitor center.

Audubon Fire Hall 5k run/walk

Tamarac NOAH project

Tamarac Project NOAH Adventure is from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Learn how to turn your Tamarac wildlife sightings into a documented citizen science observation. We will search for plants, wildlife, insects, reptiles etc. and learn how to document the sighting. Be prepared for modest walking and bring your camera. Meet at the Chippewa Picnic Area located on County Hwy 26 just past the Blackbird Wildlife Drive entrance.

Pancake breakfast, Shaw benefit

The Ulen Lions Club hosts a free-will donation pancake breakfast to benefit Carl and Susan Shaw from 9.m. to noon in the Ulen Event Center.  Donations will help offset medical costs from Susan’s cancer and Carl’s stroke.  Donations also accepted at Bell State Bank and Trust in Hawley.

Tamarac program

Tamarac Refuge hosts Butterfly Kisses and Wetland Jewels at 2 p.m. Join John Weber, butterfly enthusiast and citizen scientist, for an intriguing look into the world of butterflies and dragonflies. Learn about their fascinating lifestyles and their significance in a changing climate. Meet at the Chippewa Picnic Area. We will carpool to specific viewing sites in search of these beauties of summer.

Shoreham Chapel

Historic Shoreham Chapel, non-denominational, between Lake Melissa and Lake Sallie, holds services June 9-Sept. 1 at 10:45 a.m. It is open to the public. Coffee and refreshments follow the service. Dan Danielson, director of New Life Center in Fargo, and Rev. Tim Cook, Chaplain of St. Mary’s Hospital in DL, will be officiating at different times. Kathie Brekke and the apostles Blues Band will perform at the opening service.

Christian Fellowship VBS

Christian Fellowship Church, Detroit Lakes, hosts Vacation Bible School June 24-28 from 9 a.m.-noon each day for ages 5-12 years old.
