Fire seriously damages house in Richwood on Saturday

A home in Richwood is considered a total loss after a house fire Saturday afternoon.

Nobody was injured in the fire at 27245 Mill Street, near the Richwood Store, and no pets were inside the home at the time, according to Callaway Fire Chief Keith Heinlein.

A young couple lived in the home. They were not home at the time of the fire, about 4:15 p.m., and their names were not immediately available, he said.

“The house is still standing, but about a third of the roof is gone and it’s a complete loss inside,” Heinlein said.

The house consists of a mobile home with an addition and a roof built over the combined structure, he said.

Firefighters poured about 15,000 gallons of water on the blaze, transported from the city water supply in Callaway.

Callaway was the primary fire department fighting the fire. The Detroit Lakes Fire Department provided mutual aid, sending two trucks and a crew of firefighters. The White Earth Fire Department also helped, sending two tanker trucks, Heinlein said.

“I was the first one on the scene,” he said. “When I got there, smoke was coming out the eves and you could see a little bit of flames coming through on the south side.”

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, he said.
