Trucks crash on icy I-94 near Barnesville, one driver killed

BARNESVILLE, Minn. - A crash near here involving two semis left one driver dead this morning on an icy stretch of Interstate 94, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

One semi rear-ended the other about 4 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near milepost 24, the patrol said.

The name of the driver who died has not been released. The other driver, Thomas Harrington Jr., 53, of St. Paul, was not hurt, patrol Sgt. Jesse Grabow said.

The patrol continues to investigate the crash.

Grabow urged drivers to slow down and use caution on the roads, which are snowy and icy in spots.

"I would advise against using cruise control this morning," he said.

Grabow said the patrol has dealt with several vehicles that went off the road this morning in west-central Minnesota, including a couple of jackknifed semis.
