Bad heroin causes 7 overdoses on White Earth

A spike in overdoses on the White Earth Reservation in the past 48 hours prompted law enforcement there to warn the public Tuesday about heroin-related risks.

In the past two days the White Earth Police Department and the Mahnomen County Sheriff's Department responded to seven "overdose related" calls, two of which resulted in deaths, according to a news release from the tribal police department.

White Earth Police Chief Michael LaRoque said that even regular heroin users are at risk of an overdose and encouraged them to seek help.

"While we are committed to arresting those who sell and possess illegal drugs, we are also mindful of the need for treatment for addiction. We want to encourage heroin users as well as other substance abusers to seek help," LaRoque said.
