Family of Moorhead girl to hold vigil at park where she drowned
MOORHEAD — Grace Elizabeth Bettie's family will hold a candlelight vigil for her 6 p.m. Monday, July 2, at Buffalo River State Park, where she recently drowned, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
The Moorhead girl was 9 years old.
Her death Wednesday, June 27, at a popular swimming hole in the park near Glyndon, Minn., remains under investigation.
She had been on an outing as part of the Moorhead Police Summer Youth Program when she went missing, according to witnesses. Lifeguards eventually found Bettie's body in the water.
The sheriff's office said Bettie's family has set up the Grace Elizabeth Bettie Memorial Account at Wells Fargo bank and a GoFundMe page with a goal of $15,000 to help pay for her funeral. As of Sunday afternoon, July 1, the page, at www.gofundme.com/help-a-young-grieving-mother, has raised $2,850.
The vigil is open to the public and candles will be provided.
