Crime and Accidents

The following items were taken from reports at the Detroit Lakes Police Department and Becker County Sheriff's Office.

Wednesday, July 20

• At 7:59 a.m. broken windows were reported at the Circle of Life School in White Earth.

• At 11:12 p.m. tribal police responded to a report of two girls hit by a black Blazer in the Pine Point area. Deputies, state troopers, tribal officers, Carsonville firefighters and a North Memorial Ambulance crew all responded. Neither of the girls were apparently injured seriously enough to be transported by ambulance.

Friday, July 22

• At 9:17 a.m. a fawn was reported running near Burger Time in Detroit Lakes. An officer checked on it and said the fawn was doing just fine.

• At 9:54 a.m. a domestic dispute was reported, with pushing and shoving between a couple on the 1100 block of Cleveland Ave.

• At 11:16 a.m. a 23-year-old woman reported the attempted theft of stereo equipment on the 200 block of East Main St.

• At 3:49 p.m. a BB gun was found on the road on the 1500 block of Long Lake Drive. It was put into the police department vault.

• At 8:49 p.m. an Ogema man reported tires slashed on his ATV in Maple Grove Township.

Saturday, July 23

• At 12:08 a.m. a loud music complaint was received about Zorbaz in Detroit Lakes. The music was turned down per police request.

• At 5:42 a.m. a barn fire was reported in Osage Township, on the 24000 block of County Road 48. The fire was apparently caused by a lightning strike, and caused the deaths of three horses inside, and the total destruction of the barn, according to Carsonville Fire Chief Roger Wilson.

The owner of the barn, Terry Sexton of Osage, does not live on the property, although there is an unoccupied house there, and no one was around to save the horses. The fire was reported by a passing motorist. Carsonville firefighters were on the scene about two hours, with assistance from Wolf Lake firefighters.

• At 5:52 a.m. a barn fire was reported on the 26000 block of County Road 149 in Detroit Township. A lightning strike hit an empty horse trailer and shorted out a breaker panel in a nearby shop. There was no fire and no one was hurt. Detroit Lakes firefighters were on the scene for about an hour.

• At 8:25 a.m. DL Park Department employee reported that a building in Snappy Park had been forcibly entered. Taken were two softball trophies and a new softball.

• At 11:11 a.m. a Detroit Lakes man reported a shed was broken into in Hamden Township and a tan 2001 GMC Sierra pickup truck was stolen.

• At 11:14 a.m. a Detroit Lakes man reported the theft of an ATV, which was found upside down in a ditch.

• A 3:52 p.m. a Lakeview Township man reported a possible electrical fire on the 12000 block of Abby Lake Drive. There was smoke, but no fire. DL firefighters were there for about 20 minutes.

• At 8:27 p.m. a loud music complaint was received about Long Bridge. The music was turned down per police request.

Sunday, July 24

• At 4:04 a.m. a man in Eagle View Township reported his home had been vandalized and items taken. There is a suspect in the case.

• At 6:21 p.m. a rural Park Rapids man reported the theft of $390 and 90 hydrocodone pills from his Savannah Township home on the 36000 block of County Road 46.

Monday, July 25

• At 10:01 a.m. a Detroit Lakes man found a wallet off County Road 6 in Lake Eunice Township -- containing $320 in cash and other items -- and turned it in to authorities.

• At 12:12 p.m. Lake Region Electric Cooperative reported the theft of five 10-gauge copper conduits from a power pole to a cabin in Silver Leaf Township, apparently taken for the scrap value.

• At 7:21 p.m. a man on the 700 block of West Main St. in Detroit Lakes reported his upstairs window and porch window had been shot by a BB gun.

Wednesday, July 27

• At 8:29 a.m. Several vehicles were reported to have been egged on the 1300 block of Lori Avenue.

• At 8:54 a.m. Lakecrest Resort in Detroit Township reported a burglary that occurred on June 12. Taken were two black 32-inch flat screen TV sets. There is a suspect in the case.

• At 9:58 a.m. a man on the 1800 block of Heritage Drive in Detroit Lakes reported the theft of a fishing rod and reel from his garage sometime over the past week.

• At 5:13 p.m. a 32-year-old man was arrested for fourth-degree DWI after a non-injury auto accident at the junction of Highway 34 and Washington Avenue.

• At 9:02 p.m. a White Earth woman reported the theft of a computer from her residence.

Thursday, July 28

• At 4:46 a.m. a White Earth woman reported a sexual assault.

• At 8:26 am. A Lake Park man reported a break-in to his red GMC pickup truck while it was parked at the Holiday Inn. The sliding cover on the bed was pried open and a number of items were stolen, including fishing rods, reels and tackle and a knapsack with clothing and other items.

• At 12:11 p.m. officers received a report of an injured deer with fawns on the 800 block of White Clover Beach Road. Police conferred with DNR officials about the deer, which had a leg injury of unknown severity It was left alone overnight to see if it could move. When it was still there in the morning, it was dispatched.

• At 12:48 p.m. a White Earth woman reported being assaulted by a known male. The man also called the sheriff's department.

• At 3:26 p.m. a clothes dryer fire was reported on 270th Street. Lake Park firefighters were on the scene for about 20 minutes.

• At 3:44 p.m. officers were called to a shouting and pushing match between two men at a house behind the community center. Police talked to a 31-year-old man who said the fight was over and that the other man was drunk. The other man wouldn't open the door when the officer knocked.

Friday, July 29

• At 1:37 a.m. a domestic dispute was reported on the 700 block of Park Street. A 44-year-old woman was arrested for interfering with a 911 emergency call.
