Crime and Accidents
The following items were taken from reports at the Detroit Lakes Police Department and Becker County Sheriff's Department:
Thursday, Aug. 18
At 12:59 p.m. a Mora, Minn., man reported that he had suffered a broken nose after being assaulted Aug. 7 at Eagle Campground during WE Fest.
Friday, Aug. 19
At 8:08 a.m. a burned-out pickup truck was discovered in a ditch on County Road 129 near Ponsford, still smoldering.
At 8:22 a.m. a greenhouse break-in was reported on County Road 149, with the theft of Pam's Salsa and a pushcart reported, and damage to plants and tomatoes.
At 2:06 p.m. a man reported tires slashed on two of his vehicles on the 100 block of West Central. Tires were slashed on a 1985 Fiero and a 1989 Ford pickup truck. There are suspects in the case.
At 1:44 p.m. a resident on the 1000 block of West Lake Drive reported the theft of a 21-speed mountain bike from the back yard. A painter's ladder was also taken from a van parked at the residence. A red, older-model boy's mountain bike was left at the scene and turned over to police.
At 6:32 p.m. an employee at the Speak Easy reported that a two-tone Econoline had been parked in the parking lot for about a week.
It turns out a 55-year-old woman had been living in it. The vehicle was not in running condition, and had no plates and no insurance. She was given a ride to the Amtrak station by a police officer and assisted in getting a ticket to the Twin Cities, where she had been heading when her vehicle broke down.
Saturday, Aug. 20
At 9:30 a.m. a chainsaw accident was reported in South Round Lake Township. A man was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries after cutting himself in the leg with a chainsaw.
At 10:30 a.m. police received a report that a triathlon athlete had been in a bicycle accident and suffered lacerations to one leg. EMS personnel on scene handled the injury.
At 1 p.m. authorities received a report of an injured personal watercraft operator on Detroit Lake. Police were called to the north access near Holiday Inn to help a person with an upper leg injury. The injuries did not appear life-threatening. No further details were available.
Sunday, Aug. 21
At 7:45 a.m. a man reported his son had been hit by a car on a road about 2 miles northwest of Frazee. The victim, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital with what are believed to be non life-threatening injuries.
A farmer in the Pine Point area reported that he lost an estimated $18,000 in damage and crop losses due to copper thefts from his irrigation system.
The theft was reported on Sunday evening but the farmer said it could have happened any time after Wednesday.
There have been a number of copper thefts involving irrigation systems in the Ponsford Prairie area.
If anyone has any information, they are asked to call the Becker County Sheriffs Office.
At 7:07 p.m. a woman on the 1100 block of Roosevelt Avenue reported the theft of a women's 10-speed bicycle from her yard.
At 3:48 a.m. residents on the 500 block of Holmes reported large fireworks going off in the area. A 34-year-old man was given a ticket for possessing illegal fireworks.
Monday, Aug. 22
At 6:27 a.m. a resident on the 700 block of West Avenue reported the overnight theft of a wallet from an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway.
At 7:54 a.m. a woman on the 900 block of West Willow reported an overnight theft from an unlocked vehicle. Taken were an iPod Touch and man's wallet containing $200 cash and other items.
At 2:05 p.m. a Detroit Lakes woman reported the theft of a purse from a 2005 Ford Taurus parked at the Sanford clinic lot.
