Crime and Accidents

The following items were taken from reports at the Detroit Lakes Police Department and Becker County Sheriff's Department:

Friday, Sept. 16

• At 10:40 a.m. a 19-year-old M State student from Frazee reported a laptop was missing from the common area of the college after he left it unattended.

• At 8:46 p.m. a fight was reported at the high school football game in Frazee.

Saturday, Sept. 17

• At midnight an assault was reported with a half-dozen people fighting in the vicinity of County Road 133 south of the old post office in White Earth.

• At 1:41 a.m. a related call was received involving two young men fighting with sticks in the vicinity of the school. They were gone when police arrived. One male reported being hit in the head and unable to hear out of one ear.

• At 2:15 a.m. a woman on the 1600 block of Long Bridge reported a prowler hiding behind a propane tank in the back yard. A 21-year-old woman was arrested for disorderly conduct after she failed to heed an officer's warnings to get into a sober cab and leave. She was extremely intoxicated and was taken to jail. Her boyfriend was with her at the scene.

• At 2:53 a.m. police received a report of people fighting, possibly with clubs, in a field in the old projects area in White Earth. They were gone when police arrived.

• At 12:33 p.m. a Lakeview Township resident reported a mailbox had been stolen.

• At 1:04 p.m. a broken window was reported on a cabin in Lakeview Township. No entry was gained.

• At 2:43 p.m. a cabin break-in was reported on South Round Lake.

• At 5:14 p.m. a Runeberg Township resident reported the theft of a large, custom-made go-cart from the County Road 40 area.

• At 9:50 p.m. a one-vehicle rollover was reported on County Road 119 in Runeberg Township. Several people were able to get out of the vehicle on their own, suffering only minor injuries.

Sunday, Sept. 18

• At 4:14 a.m. a mobile home fire was reported on County Road 21 across from the Catholic church in White Earth. A security officer at the congregant housing unit reported the fire, saying that flames were visible. Firefighters from White Earth were on the scene for about an hour. Ogema firefighters assisted.

At 9:02 a.m. an overnight burglary was reported at the Episcopal Church in Pine Point. Items were taken and a door was damaged inside the church.

• At 1:20 p.m. a carbon monoxide detector went off on the 600 block of Granger Road. Firefighters were on the scene about 8 minutes. Detroit Lakes Fire Chief Dave Baer said firefighters handled several false alarms regarding carbon monoxide alarms over the past few days.

• At 5:48 p.m. an Ogema man reported the theft of tools in Maple Grove Township.

• At 5:49 p.m. a Frazee woman reported damage to a lawnmower and a camper in her yard. There is a suspect in the case.

• At 7:43 p.m. a Detroit Lakes man reported damage to a four-wheeler in Detroit Township.

• At 9 p.m. a Frazee resident reported property damage on the 600 block of West Ash Avenue.

Monday, Sept. 19

• At 2:07 a.m. a woman in Lake Eunice Township reported a domestic assault. She said it was an ongoing situation for the last 18 months.

• At 4:26 p.m. a Mankato man reported vehicle vandalism that had occurred during WE Fest. His Nissan Pathfinder had been scratched with a key on both sides. The late report was made for insurance reasons.

• At 6:59 p.m. Sparking electrical wires were reported near Foltz Trucking on Highway 59 North. Firefighters were there for about 25 minutes.

• At 8:10 p.m. a house fire was reported at the Glen Crow residence on the 400 block of Rossman Avenue in Detroit Lakes.

The family of five that lives there escaped without injury, said Detroit Lake Fire Chief Dave Baer. The fire started in an upstairs bedroom in the two-story wood-frame house, and it was largely contained to that bedroom, but there was fair to moderate smoke damage throughout the house.

Firefighters had to access the house through an upstairs window, and had to cut a hole in the ceiling to get at parts of the fire that had spread to the attic, Baer said. They were on the scene for several hours.

Tuesday, Sept. 20

• At 1:15 a.m. an Osage man reported an attempted break-in -- he said three people were trying to get into his garage. They were unsuccessful and left the scene.

• At 6:59 a.m. a rural Frazee resident reported that a mailbox was smashed over the weekend in Burlington Township.

• At 9:34 a.m. a woman reported a theft from her vehicle while parked overnight at the Acorn Lake mobile home park.

• At 12:15 p.m. an Audubon man reported mailbox damage in the Lake Eunice area overnight.

Thursday, Sept. 22

• At 7:17 a.m. an employee at Foltz Trucking in Detroit Lakes reported someone had let off five fire extinguishers overnight.

• At 8:16 a.m. a Becker County Highway worker found a barrel of acid that had fallen off a truck on County Road 34 east of County Road 21. White Earth authorities handled it.

• At 11:04 a.m. a Lake Eunice man reported a shed break-in on St. Mary's of the Lakes Road. Taken were a generator, a chain saw, and a compound bow in a case.

• At 11:30 a.m. a Richwood man reported the theft of cigarettes, beer and a Dewalt cordless drill from his vehicle overnight. It was parked on the 25000 block of Whiskey Creek Drive.

• At 4:09 p.m. a Frazee woman reported the theft of $238 from the 200 block of Fifth St. NW.

Friday, Sept. 23

• At 1:56 a.m. a domestic disturbance was reported on the 1000 block of Campbell Avenue in Detroit Lakes
