Truck goes off highway, ends up in lake near Alexandria

This truck slopped into a lake near Alexandria, Minn. Special to Forum Communications Co.

ALEXANDRIA, Minn. - A New York man was hurt when the truck he was driving went off Interstate 94 through the freeway fence and into Lake Latoka west of here, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

The driver, 39-year-old Velic Hasan of Utica, N.Y., got out of the truck and sat on the cab until a boat picked him up and carried him to shore, the patrol stated in a news release.

Hasan was taken by North Ambulance to Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

Both the Volvo truck and the trailer it was pulling were totaled.

Alexandria police and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
