Rise in fish house thefts

The following items were taken from reports at the Becker County Sheriff's Department and the Detroit Lakes Police Department:

Friday, Jan. 11

• At 8:02 a.m. icy road conditions led to three vehicles crashing into each other at the intersection of Frazee Street and Minnesota Avenue. There were no injuries reported.

• At 8:13 a.m. five vehicles were reportedly sliding around and unable to get through an intersection at Aspen Drive in the Timber Creek Addition off South Shore Drive.

• At 8:31 a.m. a collision between a black Jeep and a red Cadillac was reported on the 200 block of Minnesota Avenue. No injures were reported.

• At 10:34 a.m. the theft of jewelry was reported on the 300 block of Sunset Avenue.

• At 11:51 a.m. a maroon Pontiac Bonneville was reportedly in a ditch facing oncoming traffic in Detroit Lakes.

Saturday, Jan. 12

• At 7:38 a.m. a fish house theft was reported on the northeast side of Cotton Lake. Taken were a gas-powered auger, a 20-pound propane tank. A Mr. Heater, two rods, a tip-up, two tackle boxes and a Coleman lantern.

• At 9:51 a.m. another fish house theft was reported on Cotton Lake. Taken were a tackle box, seven fishing rods, an ice chisel and a battery. Total estimated value of the items is $1,500, according to the police report.

• At 6:57 p.m. a domestic assault was reported on the 200 block of Cedar Avenue in Frazee. A man said he was assaulted by his girlfriend.

Sunday, Jan. 13

• At 2:42 a.m. a driver with Detroit Lakes Transportation reported his taxi had been hit and seriously damaged by a white van, which left the scene without stopping. No injuries were reported.

• At 10:09 a.m. a vehicle was reported stuck on an ice ridge on Big Cormorant Lake. The driver said help was on the way.

• At 4:19 p.m. the theft of a PlayStation was reported on the 200 block of Oak Grove Avenue.

• At 4:23 p.m. the theft of $2,600 from a safe was reported on the 26000 block of 250th Street in Richwood Township. Another $200 was taken from a room there, the complainant said.

• At 4:50 p.m. a domestic assault was reported on the 24000 block of McKinley Avenue in Osage. A man said he was hit by a woman, the woman said she had been slapped in the face by the man.

• At 7:33 p.m. an employee at Casey's general Store in Detroit Lakes store reported a male left without paying for a case of beer. He left on the run, dropped the beer on the street and kept going.

• At 7:47 p.m. a man in a black coat was reportedly yelling and running in and out of traffic on Washington Avenue near Willow Street.

Monday, Jan. 14

• At 10:04 a.m. the theft of a boat dock was reported on the 3300 block of Strawberry Drive in West Sugar Bush Township.

Tuesday, Jan. 15

• At 2:17 p.m. a fish house break-in was reported on Big Floyd Lake sometime between Jan. 2-5. Taken was a Buddy heater, a Coleman two-mantle propane lantern, two clear plastic tackle boxes, two rod and reel sets and two high-density foam seats.

Wednesday, Jan. 16

• At 10:28 a.m. the theft of an Eskimo ice auger was reported from the back of a pickup truck parked at the Essentia North Campus.

• At 11:58 a.m. Four counterfeit $20 bills were discovered at Bremer Bank when a woman tried to get change for a $20. After the first one was discovered, she asked bank employees to check the other bills she had received as change.

• At 12:11 p.m. a Springfield M14 semi-automatic .308 caliber rifle was reported missing from storage at the Becker County Sheriff's Office.

According to Sheriff Kelly Shannon, it was a weapon that came to the sheriff's office through a program to dispose of weapons no longer needed by the U.S. military.

The department received the M14 several years ago when Warren Rethwisch was sheriff, and it was discovered missing during a recent inventory.

• At 8:40 p.m. a Frazee man reported a burglary at he former Gary's Furniture building.
