Assault charges filed in Moorhead attack
MOORHEAD -- A 21-year-old Moorhead man faces felony assault and terrorizing charges in connection with an alleged attack early Thursday.
Tyler James Otterson of 952 50th Ave. S. is accused of striking a man with a metal bar and breaking out the back window of his vehicle.
Court records state that Otterson had spoken with an ex-girlfriend at a Fargo bar Wednesday night and convinced her and another woman to meet him at his south Moorhead home.
Otterson and his former girlfriend argued and he took her car keys, telling police later he didn't want her to drive home drunk, according to court records.
The other woman called her boyfriend to pick them up, and when he arrived, Otterson struck him in the arm, investigators believe. Otterson told Clay County deputies - called to the scene at 4:27 a.m. - that the alleged victim charged at him with an ice scraper.
Otterson made an initial appearance in Clay County District Court on Friday, where his bail was set at $25,000 cash or bond. He is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, terroristic threats, criminal damage to property and domestic assault.
His next court date is set for Feb. 11.
