Bail set at $2 million for man accused of double murder in Mahnomen

Bail was set at $2 million Monday for a man accused of murdering two elderly rural Mahnomen County residents in their home.

Timothy James Thorson, 53, of Mahnomen appeared in Mahnomen County District Court Monday, where he was charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two other felony charges.

He is the sole suspect in the murders of 72-year-old Francis Lundon and 71-year-old Ethyl Lundon, who lived near Thorson. The Lundons were found shot to death early Friday

About 20 Lundon family members attended the arraignment hearing.

Bail was set at $5 million without conditions and $2 million with conditions for release.

At the hearing, Thorson said his income is about $89 per month. He has been living for the past few years at a sober home for chronically chemically dependent people about a mile north of the Lundon home.
