Woman in court for aiding offender

A Park Rapids woman made her first appearance Monday in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of aiding an offender to avoid arrest.

Grace Margret Rairdon, 19, of 15911 Fortune Drive, Park Rapids, was charged in connection with an Oct. 2 incident in Becker County.

Rairdon's green Jeep was seen leaving a residence that officers believed had recently been occupied by John William Butcher, an adult male who was being sought on an outstanding arrest warrant.

When a White Earth police officer pulled his vehicle up alongside Rairdon's to question her, two passengers were seen inside the vehicle. Rairdon claimed she did not know Butcher and denied having been at his residence. The officer suspected that Butcher may have been one of the passengers in her vehicle.

He called Rairdon on her cell phone to question her, and she claimed to have dropped Butcher off on her way back to Park Rapids; the officer, however, had observed her vehicle parked outside the home of Butcher's mother, and confronted her. According to the complaint, Rairdon allegedly admitted that she had lied.

Rairdon has been released on her own recognizance pending her next court appearance at an Oct. 18 Rule 8 hearing.
