Red Lake man sentenced for assaulting woman

ST. PAUL - A Red Lake, Minn., man accused of brutally beating a woman was sentenced Wednesday in St. Paul's federal court to 4½ years in prison, the U.S. attorney's office said in a news release.

Christopher Strong, 31, admitted to assaulting the woman in November 2009 on the Red Lake Indian Reservation, authorities said.

Tribal police reported finding the woman lying on a bed next to Strong. Her eyes were swollen shut; her nose was broken; she had a bite mark on her back, a cut on her jaw and bruises on her arms, legs, shoulders and face, authorities said.

She told officers Strong had kicked and hit her over the course of several days. She also told police he had smashed her face against a wooden stand.
