Ponsford man gets jail for threats

A Ponsford man was sentenced Monday in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of terroristic threats.

Joseph Lee Butcher, 19, of P.O. Box 4, Waboose Drive, Ponsford, was given a stayed sentence of 12 months and 1 day in prison, with conditions including completion of up to five years of supervised probation, 60 days in jail and an undetermined amount of community service hours in lieu of $1,160 in court fines and fees.

Butcher and George Robert Taylor, also of Ponsford, were both accused of assaulting a male victim at a Pine Point residence on Jan. 10.

Additional charges including two counts of felony assault and one count of false imprisonment were dismissed prior to sentencing.

According to the complaint, Butcher allegedly became angry with the man, threw him down onto the couch, held him down by force and punched him in the face multiple times. Each time the man tried to get up, Butcher allegedly pushed him back down again and punched him some more.

Taylor allegedly encouraged Butcher in the assault and is still facing criminal charges in connection with the incident.
