Fargo man in court for possessing pills, meth, pot

A Fargo man made his first appearance Monday in Becker County District Court on felony drug possession charges.

Brandon Gerald Jacobs, 30, of 2615 55th Ave. S., Fargo, is facing one count of second degree controlled substance crime-possession, and two counts of fifth degree controlled substance crime-possession, in connection with an Aug. 3 incident in Callaway.

According to the criminal complaint, a police officer was patrolling on County Road 52 near Callaway when another vehicle pulled out in front of his squad car at around 6:30 p.m., then sped away.

The squad car's radar showed that the vehicle was traveling at 42 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone, so the officer pursued the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on Highway 59 in Callaway.

Smelling a strong odor of marijuana from inside the vehicle, the officer asked the driver (Jacobs) about it, and according to the complaint, he allegedly started to shake, then said that he would find a marijuana pipe "somewhere in there."

After searching the vehicle, the officer found two plastic baggies containing a white substance that later field tested positive as containing about 10.45 grams of methamphetamine. He also found a pill bottle containing 30 pills that were identified as containing acetaminophen and oxycodone.

A search of the vehicle's trunk also yielded a tote bag that contained a large plastic cylinder. Inside it were six baggies, containing a green leafy substance that was later field tested as being about 100 grams of marijuana.

Jacobs has a prior controlled substance crime conviction on his record from 2003. He is currently in custody at the Becker County Jail awaiting his next court appearance, at an Aug. 20 Rule 8 hearing. His bail was set at $25,000 with conditions, or $75,000 without conditions.
