Ponsford woman gets jail for threatening man

A Ponsford woman was convicted and sentenced Monday in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of second degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

Mary Rose Thompson, 19, of 85339 847th Ave., Ponsford, was given a stayed prison sentence on conditions including completion of 60 days in jail, up to five years of supervised probation and an undetermined amount of community service hours in lieu of $1,085 in fines and fees. If she successfully completes probation, the charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor on her record.

Thompson was accused of threatening a man with a knife during an argument that occurred March 4 at a residence in Pine Point. She allegedly struck the man with her fists repeatedly during the argument, then left the room for a short period of time and came back in with a knife in hand, which she reportedly raised over her head in a threatening manner, as though she was going to attack him.
