In court for not reporting back to jail

A Detroit Lakes woman made her first appearance Monday in Becker County District Court on a felony escape from custody charge.

Tammy Lynn Mills-Noel, 22, who listed her address on court documents as "homeless," but whose last known address was in Detroit Lakes, was charged after she failed to report back to jail following a doctor's appointment on Dec. 10.

Mills-Noel had been incarcerated at the Becker County Jail since Nov. 28 to serve out a 45-day sentence for a probation violation.

Her sentence allowed her to be released for chemical use assessment and/or treatment, and at around 10:20 a.m. on Dec. 10, she left the jail for a 10:30 appointment at Lakeland Mental Health.

When the jailer on duty called Lakeland shortly after noon to determine whether Mills-Noel was still at her appointment, they said that she had left at noon. The jailer also learned that she had been approximately 20 minutes late for her appointment.

Mills-Noel is currently in custody awaiting her next court appearance, at a Jan. 14 omnibus hearing. Her bail was set at $10,000 with conditions, or $25,000 without conditions.
