Counterfeit bills still circulating the area
The following items were taken from reports at the Detroit Lakes Police Department and Becker County Sheriff's Office:
Friday, Feb. 1
At 8:22 a.m. an accident was reported on Highway 10 on the Highway 59 overpass. A vehicle slid out of control and hit a light pole, knocking it into traffic.
At 11:44 a.m. a domestic disturbance between a male employee and his wife was reported at Team Industries. A supervisor handled the matter.
At 7:53 p.m. a domestic disturbance was reported on the 1200 block of Lake Avenue.
At 12:31 p.m. a counterfeit $50 bill was reported by the Richwood Store. It was received Tuesday.
A number of counterfeit bills have been passed in the Detroit Lakes area the past few months and DL Police Investigator Eric Bergren is urging merchants to be careful. Use counterfeit-detection pens and ask customers to wait for law enforcement if a counterfeit bill is detected. The bills often don't feel right and are missing the watermark and other safeguards.
Counterfeit bills from $1 to $100 have been found, but $20 bills seem to be the most common.
The U.S. Secret Service is helping the local police investigate the rash of counterfeiting.
At 10:18 p.m. a fish house break-in was reported on Big Detroit Lake. A Big Buddy propane heater was stolen.
Saturday, Feb. 2
At 1:04 a.m. a theft was reported on the 400 block of West Lake Drive.
At 10:22 a.m. a Frazee man reported he lost his wallet at the Frazee liquor store.
At 3:16 p.m. a one-vehicle rollover was reported on 125th Street east of Abbey Lake Drive. The driver reported a banged-up head, but otherwise got out safely.
At 8:25 p.m. a fish house theft was reported on Big Detroit Lake. Taken were fishing rods, a lantern and an ice chisel.
Sunday, Feb. 3
At 2 a.m. a chimney fire was reported on the 25000 block of Hillcrest Road in Detroit Township. The Detroit Lakes Fire Department spent about 10 minutes on the scene.
At 6:32 a.m. a break-in was reported at a building on the Lakeshirts property on Randolph Road.
At 9:33 a.m. a lake home burglary was reported on the 15000 block of East Little Cormorant Road in Lake Eunice Township. A garbage can was taken.
At 7:12 p.m. a domestic dispute was reported on the 600 block of West Lake Drive.
Monday, Feb. 4
At 6:50 a.m.. a domestic dispute was reported on the 1100 block of Jackson Avenue.
At 10:11 p.m. an assault was reported on the 200 block of North Street West. A man said his wife had been assaulted by another woman, who drove off in a pickup truck.
Tuesday, Feb. 5
At 3:41 a.m. Becker County deputies assisted Hubbard County in recovering a 2005 Ski-Doo snowmobile that had been stolen in Park Rapids.
