Two accused of buying synthetic pot online

WILLMAR, Minn. – Two Willmar men are accused of ordering 2.87 pounds of synthetic marijuana in more than 300 ready-to-sell packets from an Internet site.

Andrew Lee Gomez, 25, and Derek Bergen Ellingson, 23, made their first court appearances Wednesday on felony charges. They were arrested in late July after Ellingson picked up the package at the Willmar Post Office.

Ellingson told investigators he picked up the package for Gomez. Ellingson also provided agents with the names of people who were already lined up to deliver the synthetic cannabinoid, authorities said.

An informant had alerted authorities that Gomez had purchased $1,500 worth of synthetic cannabinoid from a person in Florida. The informant also gave agents the tracking number of the package. Postal inspectors received a federal search warrant and met local agents at the post office July 29, when the package was received.
