Minnesota suspect faces new murder charges

FERGUS FALLS, Minn. – Otter Tail County Sheriff’s officials say new conspiracy to commit murder charges have been filed against an Otter Tail County man charged in the drug-related murder of his nephew near here in May 2012.

Conspiracy to commit murder charges were filed against Michael Alan Burris, 65, in Maricopa County Court in Arizona, said Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Lt. Matthew McGuire.

McGuire said bail was set at $1 million.

Burris is being held on a previous $1 million bail on second-degree murder charges filed against him in Otter Tail County District Court. Court documents allege he plotted with his son, Michael Kyle Burris, to murder their relative Scott Burris over $20,000 in drug money they were owed by their nephew and cousin.

McGuire said the new charges will delay extradition of the senior Burris to Minnesota.

He also said that Scott Burris’ father, Roger Burris of Otter Tail, died Saturday.
