Police, SWAT respond to threat incident in Alexandria

Local law enforcement agencies responded to a threatening situation in Alexandria Tuesday afternoon.

At about 3 p.m., officers from the Alexandria Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, and Douglas County SWAT responded to 204 Kenwood Drive in reference a distraught male suspect sending “threatening” text messages to various individuals.

As a precaution, tenants of the apartment building were evacuated and taken to a nearby warm shelter. They were allowed to return to the building about an hour later after a suspect, James Allen Dean, 30, of Alexandria was taken into custody. Dean was arrested and is awaiting charges of terroristic threats and obstructing the legal process.

He remains in the Douglas County Jail at this time.

There was one weapon seized and no one was injured during the incident, according to the Alexandria Police Department.
