Jury trial set for Ponsford man

A jury trial has been set for a Ponsford man accused of threatening his girlfriend’s father with a sawed-off shotgun in a dispute over money.

According to the report filed with the Becker County Court, 38-year-old Karayan Adamma Koening is facing four felonies, including two accounts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, one for owning an illegal machine gun and the fourth for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon not allowed to have one.

According to the complaint, Koening was at his girlfriend’s house at County Road 129 in rural Becker County on February 8 when he got into an altercation with his girlfriend’s father over money Koening believed was owed to him.

He allegedly first threatened the man with a knife, then came back with the sawed-off shotgun and threatened him again before Koening’s girlfriend stepped in and got the gun away.

When police arrived, a search of the house produced both weapons.

Koening is being held in the Becker County jail until his jury trial, which is set for May 13.
