Felony fleeing charge dropped because DL man sent to prison
Sean Patrick Menard, 31, of Detroit Lakes has had a charge dismissed in Becker County District Court of felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle
According to court records, about 1:20 p.m. on March 22, a deputy, who knew Menard was wanted on multiple active felony warrants, saw him driving in a white Jeep Cherokee in Detroit Lakes.
Menard wouldn't pull over when the deputy activated the emergency lights on his squad car, and instead drove down Highway 34 and pulled into a residential driveway.
He drove into a garage and tried to shut the garage door, but the Jeep tripped the safety feature and the door wouldn't close. The deputy entered the garage as the door closed again. He had to pull Menard out of the Jeep and handcuff him to complete the arrest.
The charge was dismissed because Menard was sentenced to prison on an unrelated matter and received a longer sentence than he would have if convicted on this offense.
