2 boys arrested in Grand Forks after crashing stolen car

Two boys were confined at juvenile detention in Monday night after refusing a Grand Forks traffic stop and eventually crashing the stolen car into a residential neighborhood.

According to a news release:

One Grand Forks officer attempted to stop a 1997 Chevy Monte Carlo that was seen driving erratically before 7 p.m. Monday. The car accelerated to higher speeds and refused to stop, ultimately leading police into a Belmont Road neighborhood where the driver lost control and crashed at the 2500 block of Belmont, disabling the car.

Police said the driver was a 16-year-old male with a 12-year-old male passenger.

An investigation revealed the Monte Carlo had been stolen from Crookston. The boys were arrested for motor vehicle theft, stolen property possession and other offenses.
