Ogema woman ordered to pay restitution in welfare fraud case

A felony welfare fraud case has been resolved in Becker County District Court against Jenise Marie Skramstad, 38, of 31684 320th St., Ogema.

She was charged with wrongfully obtaining $1,546 in Minnesota Family Investment Program funds and $1,440 in food stamps.

She applied for the aid Sept. 2 for herself and five children, and on Nov. 26 the children were re-moved from the home by White Earth Child Welfare workers. The children were out of the home for at least two months, but she continued to receive benefits for them during that time.

On Tuesday, District Judge Joe Evans ordered the matter suspended for six years, providing that she be law abiding, pay the $50 cost of prosecution, and pay $2,986 in restitution to Becker County Human Services within six months.
