Fargo officers respond to road rage incident

A Fargo man claims he was hit with a tire iron during a road rage incident Sunday, but the other party says he was punched first and only had the tire iron as a defensive weapon, Fargo police said.

Officers were called to the incident at 5:52 p.m. in the 4500 block of 19th Avenue South, near Petro Travel Center.

A 21-year-old West Fargo man told police he was driving when he made a "rude" gesture at the 22-year-old Fargo man and his mother, who were in another vehicle, Sgt. Mark Lykken said, adding that the man didn't specify the nature of the gesture.

The man and his mother followed the West Fargo man to an apartment, where they confronted him about the gesture.

The Fargo man told police the West Fargo man grabbed a tire iron and hit him with it. The West Fargo man said he was punched in the face first and didn't hit the Fargo man with the tire iron.

The report will be reviewed by the city attorney's office for possible simple assault charges, Lykken said.
