Amenia man leads police on 40-mile chase; throws gun out of vehicle

WAHPETON, N.D. - The Richland County Sheriff's Office says a 26-year-old man was arrested late Sunday after leading authorities from six law enforcement agencies on a 40-mile chase.

Dispatchers received a report at 9:30 p.m. of a man driving more than 100 mph north of Wyndmere.

The caller said the man's girlfriend was following him, and that the man was carrying a .45-caliber handgun, according to a news release from Richland County Sheriff Larry Leshovsky.

Deputies were unable to find the man, but were notified a short time later that he was involved in a police pursuit in Breckenridge, Minn.

The pursuit went through Wahpeton and continued for about 40 miles until the vehicle stopped near Milnor. The suspect threw a gun out of the vehicle and was taken into custody without further incident, the news release said.

Joshua Allen Watt of Amenia was arrested on suspicion of fleeing. A charge of felony reckless endangerment was pending in Richland County. Charges also were pending in Breckenridge, the release stated.

The pursuit also involved the Wahpeton Police Department, North Dakota Highway Patrol and the Ransom County and Sargent County sheriff's offices.
