Man convicted of furnishing knife during an assault
A Ponsford man was convicted and sentenced July 5 in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of furnishing a dangerous weapon.
George Robert Taylor, 24, of P.O. Box 91, Unit 3, Ponsford, was sentenced to 19 months in prison, stayed on conditions including completion of a 176-day jail sentence and up to 10 years of supervised probation. He must also complete an unspecified amount of sentence-to-service hours in lieu of a $1,085 fine.
Taylor was accused of furnishing a knife to Joseph Lee Butcher, 18, also of Ponsford, during the assault of a male victim at a Pine Point residence on Jan. 10.
According to the complaint, Butcher allegedly became angry with the man, threw him down onto the couch, held him down by force and punched him in the face multiple times. Each time the man tried to get up, Butcher allegedly pushed him back down again and punched him some more.
Taylor allegedly encouraged Butcher's assault, and furnished him with a knife that he reportedly slashed through the air in front of the victim's face.
