Man gets jail for meth
An Ogema man was sentenced Monday in Becker County District Court on a felony drug possession charge.
Gordy Lee Burkhart, 33, of 39671 County Highway 21, Ogema, was convicted on the charge of fifth degree controlled substance crime-possession, and sentenced to 15 months in prison, stayed on conditions including completion of a 90-day jail sentence, up to five years of supervised probation and an undetermined amount of community service hours in lieu of $1,085 in court fines and fees.
Burkhart was a passenger in a black van driven by Jessica Lynn Larson, which was stopped for a traffic violation.
The officer who initiated the stop asked to search the vehicle, and consent was given. During the search he found some plastic wrapping sitting underneath a billfold on the dashboard. According to the complaint, the wrapping contained a white crystal substance that later field-tested positive as methamphetamine. After being arrested, when Burkhart had been booked and placed in a cell inside the jail, he was later removed from the cell for fingerprinting, at which time another baggie containing meth (field tested positive) was found inside his cell.
