Grand Forks police arrest suspect in burglaries at motorcycle shop

Grand Forks police arrested on Tuesday Nathan Deichert, 19, of Bismarck as a suspect in a series of burglaries at a local motor sports and marine store.

Revolutions Power Sports, 4225 36th Ave. S., was broken into three times, according to Sales Manager Paul Callina.

"We could see where he tried to force his way in," he said, but he's still not certain exactly how the burglar did it, foiling better security each time.

Whoever was breaking in started out taking jerseys and jackets, Callina said. "He got braver. The third time he broke into the safe and tried to break into the cash register. He stole a motorcycle and that's $4,500, so it's not a little deal."

Also taken were high-definition video cameras, usually helmet-mounted so owners can record all their fun, he said.

Callina said he doesn't recognize Deichert, who has not been a customer and doesn't seem to have any other known connection to the store.

According to police, Deichert is expected to be charged with felony counts of burglary, possession of stolen property, criminal mischief and dealing in stolen property.

He was arrested at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday near UND's campus, and remains in the Grand Forks County jail awaiting his initial appearance on formal charges.

Police said they have no information that Deichert was involved in any other burglaries in the region.
