Man charged with assault in two incidents
An Ogema man has been charged in Becker County District Court with four felony counts of domestic assault in connection with two separate incidents that occurred at the same residence in rural Ogema on March 28 and April 20.
James Roland Eugene Covey, 29, of 16552 County Road 18, Ogema, is accused of assaulting the same female victim on both occasions.
In the March 28 incident, he allegedly pushed and slammed her into a wall during an argument that she said became so violent she was afraid he would kill her.
In the April 20 incident, Covey allegedly pushed the woman into a freezer, then hit her with a wood stove shovel, causing injuries to the back of her head. As she was leaving the residence, Covey allegedly pushed her down into the mud; officers found the woman walking along the road with torn clothes and mud smeared on her legs and back.
Covey is currently in custody at the Becker County Jail awaiting his next court appearance, at a May 6 omnibus hearing. His bail has been set at $20,000 with conditions, or $40,000 without conditions.
