This proposed citation was in a case file for Private David A. Hurr, which "Prairie Boys at War" author Merry Helm discovered during her research at the National Archives & Records Administration this past February. Helm is working to get a posthumous Medal of Honor citation for Hurr, because she feels his award status was unfairly downgraded due to his low rank.

Fargo author Merry Helm will be speaking at the Detroit Lakes Public Library this Thursday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. The focus of her presentation will be Detroit Lakes High School alum David Hurr, who was the first Becker County soldier to be killed in action during the Korean War in 1950. She first came across Hurr's story while doing research for the first volume of her Korean War retrospective, "Prairie Boys at War," back in 2010.

This infant kitten was rescued from the Detroit Lakes city yard waste dump by local resident Kyle Braaten on Oct. 22. The kitten, dubbed Chip by his foster family, is now thriving despite having been barely more than a week old when he was abandoned.
